We start in the valley of Velunja (582m). First, we ascend 200 metres on a 2km forest road; then we walk on the main road for about 500m and turn left onto a quieter asphalt road. After 4km we reach Žlebnik homestead, this is the place where the famous Partisan poet, Karel Destovnik “Kajuh”, lost his life in a German attack on the XIV Partisan division on 22 February 1944.
From here we start descending, first on an asphalt road, then steeply down a path well-travelled by Partisan couriers. Over 800 metres we descend almost 200 metres to reach the gorge of Hudi potok.
After crossing the stream we ascend again, first on a path, then forest and asphalt roads. We have one more valley to cross (the valley of Ljubija stream) after which we ascend. We start with a forest road and travel some asphalt roads as well. The last 5km has breathtakingly beautiful paths until we finally reach Hotel Golte (1,400m).
The 23.5km takes around 10 hours at a steady pace with a challenging final ascent. You’ll be ready to rest and rejuvenate at the end of the day!
